Deputy Headteacher Pastoral job summary

Purpose of Deputy Headteacher Pastoral role:


The key purpose of this role is to be responsible for the pastoral care and discipline of all pupils. To monitor, develop and manage the school's pastoral structure and have an overview of pupil's behaviour, conduct, rewards and sanctions to ensure that the highest standards are always maintained, whilst ensuring a positive ethos and culture for learning.

Working very closely with the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher and other Leadership Team members, the Deputy Headteacher plays a key role in:

  • Co-leading the creation of the strategic vision, values, aims and goals for the school

  • Improving the outcomes for all students

  • Formulating and implementing the strategic aims and objectives of the school.

  • Establishing the policies and procedures through which the aims and objectives will be achieved.

  • Leading and managing staff and resources to achieve the aims and objectives of the school.

  • Monitoring and evaluating progress towards the achievement of agreed aims and objectives, described in the annual School Improvement Plan.
