Philip Morant School and College was judged as “Good” in all areas by Ofsted in September 2023. We are looking for a Deputy Headteacher who can be a key part in our ongoing improvement journey.

In September 2026, we plan to have four Deputy Headteachers in position whose responsibilities will align with the new Ofsted framework:

  • Quality of Education: Design and Provision: Post 16 and Personal Development
  • Quality of Education: Delivery and Development: Achievement and Curriculum and Teaching
  • Inclusion: Inclusion and Safeguarding
  • Pastoral: Behaviour and Attendance

We are looking for an experienced senior leader to complete our team as Deputy Headteacher Pastoral.

Our school is a calm and orderly place. We work hard to ensure everyone feels they belong. Our students follow our expectations to be Ready, Respectful and Safe.

In this role you will lead a large pastoral team including an Assistant Headteacher for behaviour and standards and an Assistant Headteacher for attendance. Your team will include year leaders (teaching) and year managers (non teaching), our attendance officers and our pastoral support officers.

This is a large school and a large team is in place to ensure our students can be the best they can be in their behaviour, attendance, attitude to learning and progress.

You will work alongside our team of Deputy Headteachers and the Headteacher to support the school in all areas of leadership and be a key part of the strategic leadership of the school. We use our “live list” to manage our priorities, keep our strategic focus and plan for all the demands of a very busy school.

As the largest school in Colchester we have exceptional facilities. Through the Sigma Trust there are many opportunities to work with staff in other schools and to have opportunities for development.
