Pilton Community College is searching for a leader who is passionate about teaching and learning, ambitious for young people, and ready to shape the future of learning in our school. This is a unique opportunity to join us at a pivotal moment and play a defining role in driving our mission: five inspiring lessons every day for every learner.

As Deputy Headteacher, you will be the strategic lead for teaching and learning across the school. This is not simply about maintaining high standards, but about creating a culture where research, evidence and professional growth guide everything we do. At Pilton, we believe that cognitive science and a deep understanding of how students learn should underpin curriculum design, pedagogy and classroom practice. Through StepLab instructional coaching, you will champion teacher development, ensuring that staff at all stages of their career are supported, challenged and inspired to refine their practice.

Alongside leading classroom practice, you will also take responsibility for shaping and delivering an ambitious curriculum that broadens horizons, raises aspirations and prepares students for life beyond school. You will have oversight of standards and outcomes across the school, ensuring that progress is strong, achievement is excellent, and no learner is left behind.

Your leadership will include:

Embedding a culture where teaching and learning is central to every decision we make as a school. Delivering a curriculum that is broad, ambitious and inclusive, opening doors for every learner. Ensuring teaching reflects the best of cognitive science and evidence-informed practice. Driving professional development through instructional coaching and StepLab, building teacher expertise. Leading assessment, outcomes and quality assurance to secure continuous improvement. Championing literacy, numeracy and reading so every student can access the full curriculum. Securing excellence in provision for disadvantaged learners and those with SEND. Overseeing examinations and progression pathways to further education, training and employment. Deputising for the Headteacher when required and playing a full role in shaping the future of the college and the Harbour Schools Partnership.

We are looking for an inspirational and resilient leader with a proven track record of improving teaching, raising standards and securing excellent outcomes. You will combine deep knowledge of curriculum and pedagogy with the skills to hold others to account, the humility to learn alongside colleagues, and the drive to place how students learn at the heart of school improvement.

If you are committed to transforming lives through teaching and learning, and you are ready to help every student at Pilton become the very best version of themselves, we warmly invite you to apply.
