Deputy Headteacher - SEND and Inclusion job summary

About the role

We are seeking an exceptional school leader to join our Senior Leadership Team as Deputy Headteacher (SEND & Inclusion). You will provide strategic leadership for inclusion across the academy, ensuring every young person—including those with SEND, those accessing alternative provision, and other vulnerable cohorts—thrives academically, socially and emotionally. You will be an influential systems‑leader who develops people, strengthens practice and secures excellent outcomes for pupils with additional needs.

What you’ll lead and deliver

  • Whole‑school SEND strategy and provision—including oversight of the SEND team and any specialist resource base—and the effective implementation of the graduated approach.
  • Relentless focus on outcomes: use performance and progress data (KS3/KS4) to evaluate impact, close gaps and drive improvement for pupils with SEND and those in Alternative Provision.
  • High‑quality teaching, learning and professional development: quality‑assure classroom practice; coach, mentor and upskill colleagues; lead CPD on adaptive teaching, accessibility and reasonable adjustments.
  • Multi‑agency working: build strong partnerships with parents/carers, feeder primaries, educational psychologists, health and social care, and other external agencies to secure the best support packages for pupils.
  • Safeguarding for pupils with SEND: work closely with the DSL to ensure robust identification, information‑sharing and support; oversee the timely completion of relevant risk assessments/PEEPs.
  • Leadership & accountability: line‑manage identified areas/faculties; contribute to SEF/SIP; prepare the academy for Ofsted by evidencing impact and compliance across SEND and inclusion.

About you

You will be:

  • An experienced senior leader (or outstanding Assistant Head ready for the next step) with a proven track record of improving outcomes for pupils with SEND.
  • Qualified SENDCo (NASENCo) or equivalent, or willing to secure the qualification promptly.
  • Expert in the SEND Code of Practice, behaviour and attendance frameworks, graduated response, and statutory processes (EHCPs, annual reviews, access arrangements).
  • A compelling communicator who inspires confidence, builds capacity in others, and holds high expectations with high support.
  • Data‑literate, solution‑focused and resilient, with excellent partnership‑building skills.

Why join us?

  • A values‑driven, inclusive culture where every child is known, valued and challenged.
  • Talented, committed colleagues and a supportive Trust/governing body.
  • Professional development and coaching tailored to senior leaders (including NPQs).
  • Employee benefits: Teachers’ Pension, EAP, wellbeing offers
