DEPUTY HEADTEACHER job summary
We are seeking an exceptional and compassionate Deputy Headteacher to join Spring Common Academy and help drive the next phase of our improvement journey.
Our pupils with special educational needs and disabilities love learning and thrive when supported by dedicated and inspiring adults. As Deputy Headteacher, you will play a vital role in helping them achieve success not only in school but also as valued members of their community.
This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a specialist setting, working with committed staff and wonderful pupils.
About the Role
Spring Common Academy is an area special school in Huntingdon, serving over 200 pupils with severe learning difficulties and associated needs. Many pupils have autism and some have profound and complex medical needs. Every pupil has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and we are committed to providing an inclusive, nurturing environment where every child can flourish.
We are proud to be part of Horizons Education Trust, working alongside Prestley Wood Academy in Alconbury Weald and Riverside Meadows Academy, an SEMH school with sites in St Neots and Wisbech.
Following our Ofsted inspection in June 2025, the academy was judged to Require Improvement in several areas. This presents a significant and exciting opportunity for an ambitious and resilient Deputy Headteacher to play a key role in leading rapid and sustainable improvement, with the shared ambition of restoring the school’s Outstanding status.
Working closely with the newly appointed Headteacher and the Trust’s Director of Education, and supported by a dedicated central team, you will help shape the strategic direction of the academy, strengthen the quality of education, and ensure the very best outcomes for our pupils.
We are looking for a leader who will embrace the values and strategic priorities of Horizons Education Trust and who can build strong, positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents, carers, and the wider community.
If you are a passionate leader who is committed to improving the lives and opportunities of children and young people with additional needs, we would love to hear from you.
Please review the attached recruitment booklet for full details about the role and the opportunities at Spring Common Academy.
