Job Purpose:
To work in partnership with the Head Teacher to provide professional leadership; working with children and the local community to fulfil the vision and Christian ethos of the school which, in turn, secures its success and improvement and ensures high quality education for all its pupils and improved standards of learning and achievement.
This job description is to be performed in accordance with the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document.
Professional Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Direction and Development of The School
In co-operation with, and under the direction of, the Head Teacher to:
i. support the vision and contribute to the development of the Christian ethos and policies of the school and promote high levels of achievement
ii. support the creation and implementation of the School Improvement Plan within the national and local context, and to take sole responsibility for appropriately delegated aspects of it.
iii. ensure that all those involved in the school are committed to its aims and Christian ethos, motivated to achieve them and involved in meeting objectives and targets to secure success
iv. support the evaluation of the effectiveness of the school's policies and developments
v. ensure that parents are well informed about the school curriculum, its targets, children's attainment and their part in the process of improvement
vi. deputise for the Head Teacher in their absence
vii. be responsible for Assessment, Outcomes and Early Years on the SIP and be a leading SLT member on governors’ clear committees.
2. Strategic Direction and Development of Provision for all Pupils (including Early Years, disadvantaged, SEN pupils, More Able, and all vulnerable pupil groups)
i. support the SENCO to monitor progress of objectives and targets for pupils with additional needs from teachers' plans, evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning by work analysis and use these analyses to guide future improvements
ii. support the SENCO to liaise with staff, parents, external agencies and other schools to co-ordinate their contribution, provide maximum support and ensure continuity of provision
iii. work with the SENCO to ensure provision for all pupils is regularly monitored, evaluated and reviewed and with the use of SIMS, Target Tracker and Edukey
iv. analyse and interpret relevant school, local and national data and advise the Head Teacher and governors on the level of resources required to maximise achievement
3. Learning and Teaching:
i. take a significant role in the determination, organisation and implementation of the curriculum and its assessment
ii. monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and standards of learning and achievement of all pupils to secure school improvement
iii. ensure high standards of behaviour in the classroom and around the school
iv. promote independence, equal opportunities and child protection practices
v. support the Head Teacher in developing links with parents, other schools, educational institutions, the church and the wider community, including businesses and industry, in order to enhance teaching and learning and children’s personal development
vi. be responsible for assessment and Early years as negotiated with the Head Teacher and to support specialist teaching
4. Leading And Managing Staff:
i. support the Head Teacher in developing positive working relationships with and between all staff;
ii. take responsibility for CPD, motivate and enable all staff to develop expertise in their respective roles
iii. sustain personal motivation
iv. lead groups of staff in developmental activities, delegate appropriately and evaluate outcomes
v. have a clear understanding of exemplary classroom practice and a commitment to improving both academic standards and pastoral behaviour support systems
vi. have an ability and willingness to teach across the age range provided for by the school
vii. sustain effective systems for the management and improvement of staff performance
5. Effective Deployment Of Staff And Resources:
i. support the Head Teacher in the appointment, deployment and development of staff to make most effective use of their skills, expertise and experience and to ensure that all staff have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities
i. manage the school effectively in the absence of the Head Teacher
ii. support the Head Teacher in the management and organisation of relevant groupings of children to ensure effective teaching and learning takes place and that children's personal development needs are met
iii. consult daily with the Head Teacher to check if there are any problems needing discussion or tasks to be completed
iv. work in collaboration with the Head Teacher to manage and organise accommodation and other available resources efficiently and effectively taking account of the needs of the curriculum and health and safety requirements
6. General / Accountability
i. promote the school and develop effective relationships with our parishes and the wider community
ii. provide information and advice to the Head Teacher and governing body and support proper accountability processes throughout the school
iii. contribute to ensuring that the Head Teacher, governing body, church, parents and pupils are well informed about all aspects of the school’s life and work
iv. participate in annual performance review and target agreement, in accordance with the School’s Performance Management Policy
v. take on specific tasks related to the day to day administration and organisation of the school
vi. take on any additional responsibilities which might from time to time be determined
vii. in collaboration with the Head Teacher to ensure the school operates within the agreed LA guidelines and that effective liaison exists between the school, LA and local Cluster, and the Diocese

This job description may be amended at any time following discussion with the Head Teacher, and will be reviewed annually. The role of the Deputy Head Teacher is subject to change to meet the current needs of the school.

Qualifications
Professional Experience
1. Evidence of exemplary classroom practice, varied teaching and learning experience in the primary phase
2. Senior Leadership Team experience in a mainstream primary school and evidence of leading transformational change
3. Curriculum subject development and leadership leading to high pupil standards
4. Experience of leading, motivating and developing staff CPD
5. Experience of the effective use of assessment and analysis in raising standards
6. Proven experience in developing and implementing a School Improvement Plan
7. Experience of monitoring, evaluation and review processes leading to improved standards
8. Involvement with external agencies
9. Experience of Performance Management
10. Experience of working with disadvantaged, SEN, More Able pupils and Early Years
Knowledge and Understanding
1. Awareness of current developments in education and the implications of these
2. Thorough knowledge of effective curriculum provision and skills based learning
3. Practical understanding of effective learning, teaching and assessment strategies
4. Knowledge of the target setting process and how this leads to improved standards
5. Understanding of spiritual, moral, social and cultural development
6. Knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice
7. Knowledge and understanding of vulnerable groups
8. Able to lead and manage change
