What skills and experience we're looking for
We are a strong community school who are proud of our inclusive culture where needs are met with expertise, warmth and ambition. We’re trauma-informed by design and restorative in practice. We prioritise the development of relationships and teaching expected behaviours to create the perfect conditions for growth and learning. Most importantly, these elements are all underpinned by our core values of creativity, trust, aspiration, enjoyment, collaboration and kindness. Our governors, staff, pupils and families share high expectations of each other.
We want a Deputy Headteacher who can drive these principles forward, not as initiatives but as the backbone of how we lead, teach and support our pupils to thrive.
What are our expectations for the successful candidate?
Deputising: in the absence of the Headteacher, you will take responsibility for the smooth running of the school including safeguarding as DDSL
Culture & Ethos: alongside the Headteacher and the Senior Leadership Team, you will set, promote and expect high standards across the school with a focus on behaviour, culture and ethos. We want our pupils and staff to know what excellence looks like and how to achieve it
Inclusion: lead a high‑quality, inclusive, evidence‑based provision across the school; you will work in partnership with the SENDCo and other external agencies to ensure maximum engagement with the full curriculum
Teaching commitment: up to two days a week to cover PPA/sickness across the school
Behaviour and restorative practice: embed the relationships and behaviour policy so that the agreed approaches enable pupils to enhance their learning, their self esteem and personal growth whilst enabling our teachers to confidently deliver a consistent response
Teachers and Teaching Assistants: support the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to develop staff to thrive and be confident to support pupils in the classroom and lead a group of highly skilled TA staff (to include lunchtime supervisors and After School Club staff). Manage staff attendance and oversee cover if required
Operational excellence: work alongside the Headteacher and SLT to intelligently diagnose, plan, and evaluate impact of the School Development Plan and lead on assessment throughout the school, diagnosing areas for development
Community: contribute to school-wide networks, leverage shared expertise and strengthen family partnerships by providing advice, guidance and workshops. You will work with school to school networks to develop a robust transition strategy from pre-school to secondary
What does success look like?
A visible, consistent culture where high expectations feel fair, predictable and aspirational which is understood by all stakeholders
Improved outcomes for ALL our pupils including those with SEND and Pupil Premium
Children demonstrate a readiness to learn with visible engagement with learning that is accessible to them and appropriately challenging
An embedded relationships and behaviour policy that is built on inclusion, strong relationships and restorative practice
A community-wide sense of pride and engagement
