Deputy Headteacher (two positions available) job summary
Katherine Warington School is a comprehensive, co-educational and non-denominational academic secondary school which opened in September 2019 and currently comprises over 900 students in oversubscribed year groups, with 210 in Year 8 and 180 in each of Years 7, 9, 10 and 11. We look forward to welcoming our first cohort of Year 12 students on opening our Sixth Form in September 2024 and will have grown to our capacity of 1,180 students by 2025.
Following an internal promotion, and in preparation for our continued expansion, we are looking to grow our Senior Leadership Team’s capacity by appointing two exceptional, ambitious and experienced Deputy Headteachers. It is likely that one of these roles will be focused on Teaching and Learning, and the other on Pastoral. However the final allocation of accountabilities will be decided following appointment, based on the skills and experience of the successful candidates.
As an integral part of a collaborative, supportive team with a passion for teaching enthusiastic students who are keen to progress, the successful candidates will:
- play a pivotal role in the leadership and management of the school, supporting the Headteacher in its overall strategic direction, academic standard and operational effectiveness
- be responsible for fostering a positive learning environment, nurturing the professional growth of staff, and ensuring the holistic development and welfare of students.
- be motivated by making a valued contribution towards the creation of a stimulating, engaging and fulfilling learning environment focused on raising standards of progress and achievement for all students.
- be expected to lead particular departments within the school and line manage identified middle leaders, setting high standards and expectations.

Katherine Warington School is a new comprehensive, co‐educational and non‐denominational academic secondary school (opened September 19) with 750 students currently (180 in each of years 7, 8, 9 and 10 – these year groups are already oversubscribed). The school will add a
further 180 students in each subsequent year and then open a 250 strong Sixth Form. By 2025 we will have grown to our capacity of 1,150 students. The school was established through the partnership of the Harpenden Secondary Schools Trust, which includes the three outstanding
schools in Harpenden: Roundwood Park, St George’s and Sir John Lawes and additional partners: the University of Hertfordshire and Rothamsted Research Centre (a world leading non‐profit agricultural science research centre).
