Deputy SENCo: SEN Unit Manager job summary

We are in a position to offer an exciting professional development opportunity for candidates either with QTS or as a member of the support team with significant experience working with young people on the autistic spectrum.  We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Deputy SENCo who is keen to develop the next phase of our Inclusion Centre including the SEN Unit for 10 high needs students.  This is an exciting opportunity for those with a passion for SEND.

The post is genuinely open to either a teacher or non-teacher with the right experience in SEND.  If the successful candidate is a teacher, he/she will have a teaching commitment but there are no preconceived ideas about which subject specialism will need to be delivered.

There will be professional development opportunities in due course for the successful candidate to engage in the National Award for SENCo training programme; the fees will be paid by the school.

Start date: To be confirmed, depending on the successful candidate, but as soon as is reasonably possible

Salary: Main Pay Range/Upper Pay Range + SEN allowance & TLR 2A; / or NJC SCP 33-36

This post is open to full-time or part-time candidates.  A passion for SEND is imperative.

Application process: Please complete the application form and a letter, no longer than 2 sides of A4 stating:

1.      Why you feel you are suitable to this role including your experience working with young people on the autistic spectrum

2.      The impact you would have on students, parents/carers and staff should you be appointed

Closing date for applications:  9.00am on Friday 13th October.  Interviews will be held on 19th October 2023.  Should you wish to discuss this role further, please speak with Katherine Turner, Headteacher

Commitment to safeguarding

The Athelstan Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. If successful in being called for interview, all candidates are expected to apply for an enhanced DBS before appointment is confirmed. References will be sought for shortlisted candidates before interview. Please also be aware that you will be subject to an online check and that you may be questioned about the findings of such a check at your
interview.
