Deputy Sendco job summary

Are you an ambitious and passionate educator looking to make a real difference for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? Thamesmead School is seeking a committed Deputy SENDCO to join our supportive and forward-thinking team.

You’ll work closely with the SENDCO to lead our SEN Department, supporting the development and delivery of an inclusive, engaging curriculum that enables every learner to thrive. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to take the next step towards a SENCO role—full support will be provided to complete the SENCO and Exam Access Arrangements (EAA) Assessor qualifications when you are ready.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Assist in the operational leadership of the SEN Department and deputise for the SENDCO
  • Support curriculum planning and effective teaching (50% teaching timetable)
  • Advise and develop staff, including supporting Teaching Assistants
  • Assist in identification, assessment, and provision for SEND students
  • Monitor progress and impact of interventions
  • Liaise with parents, carers, staff, and external agencies
  • Ensure exam concessions and statutory requirements are met
