Our Creative Studies Faculty is more than just a department—it’s a hub of innovation where students transform raw ideas into tangible reality. We are looking for a Design & Technology Technician to join our professional technical team and help us build a world-class learning environment.
This isn’t just a "behind-the-scenes" role. You will be the backbone of our workshops, ensuring that whether a student is working with wood, metal, textiles, or food, they have the tools and support they need to succeed.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a key support to our lead Technician and the Head of Faculty, your day-to-day will involve:
- Preparing the Canvas: Setting up specialized equipment and material packs for Resistant Materials, Food Tech, Textiles, and Art.
- Precision Support: Assisting students directly in the classroom, guiding them through the safe use of machinery and tools.
- Digital Craft: Overseeing student projects through Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM).
- Safety First: Maintaining a pristine, H&S-compliant workshop environment and ensuring all machinery is in top-tier repair.
- Inclusive Innovation: Designing and building custom jigs or fixtures to ensure students of all abilities can access our curriculum.
The Profile: Who Are You?
We are looking for a technically-minded individual who is as passionate about safety as they are about creativity.
Main PurposeTo work as a key member of a professional technical team, providing high-quality support to the Creative Studies Faculty. The post holder will ensure the seamless delivery of the curriculum by maintaining teaching areas, preparing specialised materials, and providing technical assistance to students and staff. This role is designed to augment the existing technical provisions within the Design and Technology department. This position is to support the existing Design and Technology Technician.
The Essentials:
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with wood, metal, and engineering machinery.
- Qualified: GCSE Grade C/4+ (English & Maths) and a Workshop/Craft Certificate.
- Food Safety: Level 2 CIEH Food Handling qualification.
- Experience: Practical workshop experience (if you’ve worked in education, even better!).
- The "Extras": Strong ICT skills, a deep understanding of Safeguarding, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
