Design and Technology Technician job summary

The DT Technician at OHA will support teachers and students in Design and Technology lessons by preparing materials, equipment, and resources, maintaining a safe environment, and providing technical assistance.

The post holder will be trained and mentored by OHA’s existing, experienced DT Technician throughout the 25/26 academic year.

Initially, the duties and expectations of the postholder will be in line with a level 1 technician (as outlined below), with the view that their role and responsibilities will increase upon completion of the training/handover period.

Main duties and responsibilities

With support from the existing DT Technician:

  • Prepare resources, materials and equipment for lessons as directed.
  • Assist in delivering practical learning activities for pupils.
  • Tidy up and clean workshops/classrooms or other relevant work areas.
  • Undertake basic day to day maintenance of equipment as needed and directed, to ensure it is clean and in good working order.
  • Maintain sufficient supplies of materials to enable delivery of lessons.
  • Safely and securely store allocated equipment and materials to prevent unauthorised access or misuse.

  • Perform duties in line with health and safety regulations and take action when hazards are identified, including reporting any serious hazards to the line manager.
