Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) job summary

Do you want to make a difference to the next generation, irrespective of the issues they are facing? We are seeking a positive, proactive and conscientious individual to join our team as a Designated Safeguarding Lead. Play a vital role in protecting young people, shaping a safe school environment, and making a lasting impact every day. A teaching qualification is not required for this position.

The successful candidate will join the senior leadership team, having statutory responsibility for leading and managing safeguarding and child protection across the school. The successful candidate will work closely with other school leaders, staff, pupils, parents, and external agencies, and will play a key role in maintaining and developing a strong safeguarding culture in line with statutory guidance and Academy policies. Promoting best practice, maintaining robust systems, and acting as a source of expertise, guidance, and support for the school community.

The Academy offers a unique blend of tradition and future, seeking the highest standards of behaviour and appearance, whilst maintaining an emphasis on harnessing technologies, and exploring every avenue in improving teaching, learning, and assessment.

We are looking for;

Excellent communication and relationship building skills at all levels

Proven ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism

Knowledge of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and other relevant safeguarding frameworks

Previous experience of liaising effectively with external agencies such as social care, police, and health services is desirable

Competency with the use of a variety of computer systems - ideally; CPOMS, ARBOR, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace

Flexibility - attendance at out of hours meetings may be required

Individual with proven track record in balancing a workload of conflicting priorities

An individual to work with initiative and self motivation

A relevant qualification in social work, youth work, education, psychology, or a related field (degree-level or equivalent experience)
