Designated Safeguarding Lead (Non Teaching) job summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to join our Senior Leadership Team (SLT). This pivotal role will involve taking lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection across the school, ensuring the safety and welfare of all students. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate individual to make a significant contribution to our school community by leading and promoting a strong safeguarding culture.

The DSL will act as a key point of contact for staff, students, families, and external agencies, providing expert advice and ensuring that safeguarding standards are upheld.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to:

  • Lead on all safeguarding and child protection matters, including online safety.
  • Act as the primary contact for staff, parents, carers, and external agencies regarding safeguarding concerns.
  • Ensure prompt and effective referral of cases to the appropriate external bodies.
  • Support HR with safeguarding-related referrals, including the Disclosure and Barring Service.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date safeguarding records using CPOMS.
  • Work closely with the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher to ensure a whole-school approach to safeguarding.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Mental Health Lead to support students with safeguarding concerns linked to mental health.
  • Ensure a culture of high aspirations for children who have or have had a social worker.
  • Provide safeguarding training and updates to all staff and monitor compliance.
  • Conduct internal safeguarding audits and oversee risk assessments.
  • Lead on attendance strategies, monitoring and evaluating whole-school attendance data.
  • Ensure all safeguarding policies are reviewed, updated, and implemented effectively.
