Director of Education job summary

The Directors of St Thomas Catholic Academies Trust are seeking to appoint a Director of Education to secure excellence in support for school improvement. The Trust is at an exciting point in its development. Over the last five years we have successfully brought together 17 schools and have delivered significant improvement to schools over time. Thanks to our work and the brilliant work of colleagues in schools, our schools are very successful with outcomes well above national averages. Now we have completed the main part of our growth journey, now those schools are together in one family, they have the potential to go on to become extraordinary. We are looking for a leader who will have the ambition, knowledge and skill to join us on that journey to extraordinary.

We are incredibly proud of our schools and the way our Catholic tradition serves the children in our care. We have a simple sense that the children in our schools should be loved and taught very well. Our commitment to service shaped by our faith tradition informs so much of what we do and it is important that candidates applying to this post demonstrate and awareness and a commitment to the values of our Trust and the faith that underpins all that we do. It is important to stress that you do not need to be a Catholic to apply for this role. We are incredibly proud of the rich and diverse communities that serve our schools from many different / no particular faith background. Our staff tell us they feel they belong to our community of schools. That is our aim, that you would know that you are cherished and you belong.

Working with the newly appointed CEO, Mark McLaughlin, the Director of Education will play a pivotal role in the organisation as we seek to align and grow best practice across our family of schools. While we have seen great success for our schools with outcomes well above national averages, we know that the children we serve only get one chance to get a great education. We want their futures to be bright and their memories of their time in school something they will always cherish. For that to happen we need to bring the best curriculum, the best pedagogy, and the best practice together in a way that is inspirational to both the children and the staff we serve across our schools. It is our sincere hope that you might be that person.

Should you wish to have a conversation with our incoming CEO about this role or if you would like to visit some of our schools, please contact mgilmartin@stcat.co.uk and we would be delighted to speak to you.
