Director of Inclusion job summary

Established in 1694, Robert May's School is a coeducational comprehensive 11-16 secondary school with academy status, located in the village of Odiham, Hampshire. The school’s catchment area is relatively large and as a result, the intake is diverse in terms of the socio-economic background of the students; inclusive education and high expectations for all being the foundation on which the school was originally established. The school has undergone a period of growth in terms of student numbers and, by 2023, will have 1,350 students on roll with 10 forms in each year group. There are five main feeder primary schools that the school has strong relationships with and the school has a good reputation in the area. The school also has a close relationship with RAF Odiham and many families from the base send their children to RMS.

Robert May’s School has a Resource Provision which provides an appropriate education for up to 12 children with significant/complex special educational needs of Autistic Spectrum Condition who will be identified by the SEN Service of Hampshire County Council Children’s Services. In some circumstances, with the agreement of the council and the school, students may be placed in the resource over and above its notional capacity. The provision will include specific programmes to address each child’s special educational needs and will implement the provision set out in each child’s statement of special educational needs or Education Health Care Plan.

Robert May's School also has a Learning Support Department. Here, students with EHCPs are supported to flourish within the classroom. We also have students on the SEND register and support teachers to deliver quality first teaching to ensure that all children can achieve excellence.

We have a rare and exciting opportunity for an inspirational and highly motivated Director of Inclusion to join our school for September 2022.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading, developing and managing a high standard of provision for learners with SEND, ensuring that the standards of attainment and achievement are high and that our SEND students make accelerated and sustained progress. This will include developing and implementing strategies to ensure that all students including those with special educational needs, social and emotional needs or disabilities have access to the full range of curriculum provision and educational resources. You should be confident with using data to evaluate the impact of support and interventions.

You will manage and maintain the school’s SEND register, identifying and assessing the needs of any student that is showing a SEND need and applying for access arrangements where appropriate, ensuring that the legal and statutory requirements are met for students with SEND.

You will be joining a positive and hardworking staff team who care passionately about improving the life chances of our young people and will have the support of a full time Learning Support Manager and a full time Deputy Resource Provision Manager.

To be successful you will need to be a qualified SENDCO with experience of working with children with SEND in a secondary setting. The successful candidate will be passionate about inclusion, a champion for all students with SEND and an advocate for some of our most vulnerable students.
