Director of Learning (English) job summary

As you consider the next step in your career, Jordan Cairns, Principal of Manor CE Academy, is thrilled to introduce you to our school. For over two centuries, since 1812, Manor has proudly served the young people of York. As a Church of England school, we hold a deep appreciation for academic excellence and the wealth of extracurricular activities we offer, all geared towards empowering our students to truly ‘live life to the full.’ Furthermore, we are a valued member of the Heartwood Learning Trust, a growing collaboration of schools dedicated to transforming education across York, Hull, and North Yorkshire.

Right now, an exciting and unique opportunity awaits you: the role of Director of Learning/English. This is a chance for an enthusiastic, diligent, and proactive professional to lead our dedicated English team.

To thrive in this role, you must be an exceptional teacher, someone for whom continuous professional development is a fundamental and ever-evolving aspect of your practice. You will provide vital leadership to a talented group of teachers, ensuring that outstanding teaching and learning, along with dynamic curriculum development, remain at the very core of everything we do.

When you join Manor CE Academy, you'll become part of a dedicated, creative, and highly successful team of English subject specialists. The department benefits from seven full-sized classrooms, complemented by seminar rooms for smaller group work. Each teaching space is well-equipped with PCs, projectors, and visualisers. Our shared workroom serves as a hub for the team, a place to connect during breaks and cultivate an exceptionally supportive and friendly atmosphere.

You'll find that all members of the team actively participate in research-led development projects, collaboratively striving to enhance their practice. Our culture of openly sharing ideas and teaching strategies fosters innovative and dynamic lessons across all year groups.

Subsequently, all students pursue both the Eduqas English Language and AQA English Literature GCSE courses in Years 10 and 11.

By joining us, you will become an integral part of a highly motivated, ambitious, and teamwork-driven organisation, where your passion for English and your leadership will directly shape the futures of our students. We eagerly anticipate welcoming an exceptional candidate who shares our vision and values and is ready to inspire the next generation.
