This is an exciting opportunity to lead a cluster of outstanding special schools and to shape the future of special education within an innovative MAT. The Director of Specialist Provision will be responsible for leading all aspects of special education within the Trust, including curriculum, assessment, teaching and learning, professional development, quality assurance, safeguarding and compliance. The new Director will investigate the latest research, policies and practices in special education, and have the skills to translate them into effective strategies and actions. An excellent communicator in times of change and challenge, they will engage with a range of stakeholders, including pupils, parents, colleagues, governors, local authorities, external agencies and partners.

This is a challenging and rewarding role that will make a difference to the lives of hundreds of children and their families, and it is a key appointment within a supportive and collaborative senior leadership team.

To support the evolution of the Trust teaching and learning framework to include the best practice and research to support children with SEND.

To provide a continuum of CPDL for all educators within the Trust to become world class expert practitioners for children with special educational needs.

To promote the inclusion, participation and achievement of pupils with SEND in all aspects of school life, and to celebrate their diversity and strengths.

To empower educators to utilise the opportunities with technology and Pedtech to provide adaptive teaching methods to ensure all children achieve their potential.

To develop oracy and emotional intelligence skills within all children of the Trust to ensure they are economically and socially successful adults.

Job Purpose

The Director of Specialist Provision is a member of the Senior Leadership Team for the Trust and is responsible for leading education and teaching and learning strategies across all special schools within the Trust.

To line manage and develop special school improvement expertise and ensure high-quality outcomes for all groups of children.

Develop effective networks of schools and collaborative networks where schools, leaders and colleagues share expertise and develop best practice.

Provide support, guidance and expertise for the Trust teaching and learning hub and use this hub as a source of school improvement capacity and expertise.

Provide specialist support for all children identified with SEND across all phases within the Trust. Ensure all leaders are equipped with the knowledge and expertise to meet the needs of all children.

Lead and deliver on collaboration with other phase leaders, strategies associated with the education of SEND children in Discovery Schools.

This role drives, both strategically and operationally, the support, advice and guidance that enables the special and mainstream schools to succeed and ensure the consistent delivery of Discovery’s vision, values and aims.
