Director of Sport job summary

An opportunity to join the community of Philip Morant School and College and Sigma Sixth as the new Director of Sport

An exciting opportunity has arisen for our school to recruit an enthusiastic and committed Director of Sport to lead our successful and wide ranging delivery of PE and Sport at Philip Morant School and Sigma Sixth Colchester.

This is a senior leadership team position which will be based at Philip Morant School and College full time.

Our leadership structure in PE comprises a Director of Sport, Assistant Director of Sport and three additional TLR holders. Each TLR holder has clear areas of responsibility.

We are fortunate in already having a very strong team in place that is committed to delivering an engaging and deep curriculum in PE and through our Sigma Sixth Sports Academy.

Our teams compete extensively across different sports at district, county and national levels. This includes our Sigma Sixth Football, Rugby, Netball, Basketball and Golf Academies.

Our Sports Academy hosts over 200 post 16 sports students studying BTEC Level 3 Sport or an A level programme including A level PE. They are privileged to have access to outstanding facilities in the area and excellence in coaching with different partners. In 2024/25 our football academy were winners of the EFL U19 Division 1, the EFL cup and the Essex County Cup. Our rugby academy were men’s Southern league champions and Southern men’s college 9s champions.

Our vision is that everyone feels they belong and are the best they can be, so all students are welcomed to enjoy PE in lesson time and through wide participation in extracurricular clubs and inter house competitions.

This position could be of interest to existing Subject Leaders in PE or those PE specialists who have gained experience in other areas of school leadership.

Visits to the school are strongly encouraged. Please contact jean.robinson@pmsc.school to arrange a visit outside of school hours.
