Drama and Music Technical Assistant - 2025-26OVERVIEW

This role offers a former pupil/gap year student, who has potential interest in theatre or music education, the opportunity to spend a year gaining experience in the sector. Providing creative, technical and administrative assistance for key events (academic and extra-curricular) across the Drama and Music Department calendars. The role will also require some technical support for whole school events.

Event support will be required for the following key events, actual dates to be confirmed:

Autumn Term

  • School Play - W/C January 26th (including technical and dress weekend prior)

  • Sixth form awards evening Date TBC

  • Music Concert

  • Sixth form open evening

Spring Term

  • GCSE Scripted Examination - Dates are dependent on the Examiner’s available dates

  • Music concert

Summer Term

  • A Level Scripted Examination - Dates are dependent on the Examiner’s available dates

  • A Level Devised Examination

  • Year 10 Devised Examination

  • Sports Award Evening

  • Music Concert

  • Open Evening

In addition, support will be required for Extra-Curricular clubs, House competitions, and administrative support for submission of work to the Learner Work Transfer.

POTENTIAL WORKING HOURS

  • 500 hours of work during the academic year with the potential for additional hours for the right candidate. This is likely to be scheduled as approximately 62 days over the academic year, all hours will be dependent on tasks required to be undertaken.

SALARY

  • Rate of pay: AGS NJC Band A:02 currently £12.26 per hour plus 12.07% in lieu of holiday = £13.73 per hour.

  • Hours per academic year circa 500 hours.

  • Any working pattern / day of 6 hours or more must include 30 minutes of unpaid breaks.

  • Any hours worked above & beyond the 500 hours, to be payable, must be agreed in advance of being worked by the Head of Drama having first sought SLT approval. The Drama Intern is not obliged to accept any additional hours and these would only be requested in exceptional circumstances.

FLEXI HOURS

  • The position will require you to provide support during these above key events including a week prior to the events. Specific days/ hours will have some flexibility, and will be mutually agreed to suit both the school and the candidate.

  • The Heads of Drama and Music and the Technical Assistant will together identify a suitable and achievable schedule at the beginning of each half term. If dates within this arrangement need to be changed, the candidate must inform the Heads of Drama and Music, giving at least 2 weeks’ notice.

  • At the end of the academic year it is expected that the candidate will move on to whatever chosen career they have identified.

We expect the Drama and Music Technical Assistant to lead by example in raising the ambitions of our pupils, and as part of this, they will have a small personal studio space in the theatre/Drama office in which to work, and develop props and resources.

If successful in being offered this casual hours role you will need to complete a number of pre-employment checks (including a DBS check) before being issued a casual hours contract, which must be signed & returned to Mrs Karen Andrews, AGS HR Manager.
