DT Technician - Food Tech
Job Title: Technician - Specialist DT in food tech (also able to cover lessons in Teacher’s absence)
Grade: SCP 5 - 6 - (£25,583 - £25,988) FTE (will be pro-rated for term time only hours, plus pro-rated based on hours of work)
Responsible to: Head of Faculty
Hours: 21 - 28 hours per week (0.6 - 0.8 term time only)
Contract: Permanent
Purpose of the Role
Under the direction of the Head of Faculty and Estates Manager for compliance, you will provide technical support services to the Design and Technology Faculty, including the preparation of materials, setting up of equipment and ingredients for class practical sessions and maintaining equipment for use in order to meet the practical needs of the DT curriculum
Duties and Responsibilities
The list is given as a guideline only and is not exhaustive. Other tasks and activities relevant to the main headings should also be considered acceptable. A degree of flexibility is therefore considered essential.
Technical & Safety
Prepare ingredients and equipment for food lessons.
Ensure the food room is kept to a clean, safe, and hygienic standard.
Check the quality and use-by dates of all food supplies.
Support teachers during practical food lessons.
Maintain and clean kitchen equipment after use.
Follow all food safety and hygiene regulations at all times.
Order, receive, and store food and materials correctly.
Manage allergens to ensure pupil safety.
Set up and clear away resources efficiently for each lesson.
Dispose of food waste safely and responsibly.
Work as support to teachers in lessons as appropriate.
Provide cover for short term teacher absence when needed.
Assist with Technician cover across other departments (namely DT and Science), working as part of a team of Technicians.
Organise the use of display space within the department and throughout the department as instructed by the Head of Faculty.
Monitor stock levels and report shortages or budget issues to the Head of Faculty and class teacher.
Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns in line with school policy.
Attend relevant training, including food hygiene, health and safety, and safeguarding updates.
Complete and maintain risk assessments and safety records for practical activities.
Administration
Organise departmental stock levels, liaising with all DT Teaching and Food Technician and support the Head of Faculty to administer the ordering, issue and distribution of stock.
Carry out routine administrative tasks for Head of Faculty e.g. photocopying, filing, collecting post, running errands, typing
Operate relevant equipment/ICT packages (e.g. MS Office, internet, E-mail, equipment)
Prepare classrooms displays as directed by Head of Faculty.
Assist with writing and preparing Risk Assessments for the department as directed by Head of Faculty and the Estates Manager.
To attend Faculty meeting and Technicians meetings
Supporting Students & Safeguarding
Support Specific SEN Students with a recognised high need with the department to enable them to access the curriculum fully.
Fulfil responsibilities as a Marshall for designated spaces under the direction of the Estates manager and Headteacher.
