Duke of Edinburgh Award Manager job summary

Sir John Deane’s college is looking to recruit a Duke of Edinburgh Award Manager, to oversee and lead this important co-curriculum provision.

The College offers Silver and Gold levels of the award (with some students completing the Bronze award they started at high school). There are currently c. 70 students working towards the silver award and 70 students working towards their gold. The College currently offers 2 silver practice and 2 silver qualifying expeditions and 2 gold practice and 2 gold qualifying expeditions. All expeditions are completed during Year 12.

The role will involve coordinating and leading the DofE instructors to deliver all requisite training, instruction and organisation of the qualification. The role also involves the administration (risk assessments, letters to parents, completion of reports etc) and support the success of the award scheme by attending key marketing events.

The successful candidate will have a keen passion for the outdoor/exploration pursuits, and in the development of young people with this important knowledge, skills and resilience. It is desirable for the successful candidate to have some prior experience of leading similar activities and relevant qualifications.

This role is based on an annualised hours arrangement and is responsive to cycle of activities required. There will be the requirement for the successful post holder to work greater number of hours during Sept/October and March – July. Expeditions typically take place during weekends and college holidays. During the winter months the post holders duties will be predominantly completing administrative duties, planning and preparation.
