EAL Coordinator job summary

Do you see language as more than just words?
Are you the type of person who hears 10 different languages in a corridor and thinks, “Brilliant — let’s make this even better!”?

Then step right up… we might just have your perfect role.

The Role:
At UCS, our classrooms are buzzing with languages, cultures, and stories from around the globe. We’re proud of it—and we want you to lead it.

As our EAL Co‑ordinator, you’ll:

  • Champion our wonderfully diverse EAL community
  • Support students to thrive academically and feel at home in school
  • Guide staff with strategies to make learning accessible, inclusive, and effective
  • Turn language barriers into stepping stones for success
  • Celebrate multilingualism like the superpower it is

A Day in Your World Might Include:

  • Coaching colleagues on brilliant EAL teaching approaches
  • Working with students at different stages of English acquisition
  • Tracking progress and spotting those “YES, they’ve got it!” moments
  • Collaborating with families and communities from across the globe
  • Finding creative ways to make learning meaningful (and maybe picking up a few new phrases yourself!)

We’re Looking For Someone Who:

  • Gets genuinely excited about languages, culture, and inclusion
  • Has experience supporting EAL learners (or a strong passion to lead in this area)
  • Can juggle strategy and hands-on support like a pro
  • Brings energy, empathy, and a sprinkle of creativity
  • Believes every student deserves to feel confident, understood, and successful

Why You’ll Love It Here:

  • A vibrant, diverse school community where no two days are the same
  • The chance to shape EAL provision in a school where it truly matters
  • A supportive team who are up for new ideas (and the occasional biscuit break 🍪)
  • Real impact—helping students find their voice, in every sense

What You’ll Get:

  • A purpose-driven role where every day matters
  • CPD opportunities
  • A supportive, friendly school community
  • Opportunities for training, development, and personal growth
  • The chance to genuinely change lives (no exaggeration here)
  • Plenty of “you made a difference today” moments
  • A wellness day - an additional day of leave to support your wellbeing
  • See our benefits brochure for further details.

In a nutshell:

If you’re ready to lead, inspire, and celebrate the incredible diversity of our school and turn language learning into a whole-school success story — this is your moment.
