Early Career or Return to Teaching position job summary

St Mary's is a thriving school and has an exciting opportunity to offer a unique position to new or recently qualified teachers or those looking to return to the classroom or rebuild their confidence after past experiences. We are planning ahead for future vacancies and are able to offer a 'coaching / alongside' teaching post for someone who may like to join our team but is not yet experienced or confident enough to take full responsibility for a class.

Maybe you gained QTS ins 2025 and are stuck on supply?

Maybe you have had an unhappy experience and want a fresh start?

Maybe you have taken a childcare break for a few years and want to ease yourself back into the classroom?

Working alongside one of our experienced teachers, think 'enhanced teaching experience', we can build your skill and confidence over six months with the aim of moving you into the permanent position in one of our classes for the Summer term 2026. We hate seeing teachers struggle and overloaded and we really empathise with everyone who challenged themselves to meet QTS standards, and then fails to get a position and ends up with the insecurity of supply work. We know being a parent and a teacher is hard work and returning to the classroom after a career break is daunting even before recognising how methods and pedagogy have changed during your time away. Not every person has a happy experience in a school, call it 'a person / school personality clash!' We want to offer people a fresh start.

This position is mutually supportive. We help you and build your capacity, skill and confidence and we get a teacher we can develop in our methodology and standards and are ahead of the game for recruitment in the summer period.

A little more about St Mary's....

Set in the heart of this historic, beautiful and diverse market town, we are the oldest school in town and serve a population from the local area and further afield. We are an ODST school, driven by our Vision to 'Learn, Transform and Grow. Our curriculum is carefully organised to develop children's language and reading skills and ensure that mathematical development has an equally high priority. Foundation subjects are taught creatively, with children engaging in a high level of educational and cultural visits, events and activities and enabling learning to be a lived experience which they love to share with each other, their families and our community.

Specialist sport and music provision is further enhanced with Commando Joe's character education and our playtimes are the best! St Mary's is the proud holder of an 2 OPAL Platinum Awards for play, making our playtimes irresistible and some of the best anywhere! Our well established breakfast and after school clubs, provide support for working families as well as many children who love to stay and enjoy even more time in school. The children know they are loved and cared for with compassion and our wonderful support team help them and all our teachers to meet the needs of all, so that everyone is included to take a full and active part in school life.

We work with our sister school, Wroxton Primary School, in an Executive partnership which gives exciting opportunities to work with colleagues in a much smaller, rural location five minutes away and to further enhance and grow our professional network and skills.

Supported by a deeply committed school leadership team, active local Governors and ODST this is an opportunity for ambitious, positive and exciting teachers to make a difference in the lives of a wide range of children.
