Are you at the beginning of your teaching career and looking for the right school to grow, develop and thrive?

Do you want to teach Mathematics in a supportive, ambitious department where your development is taken seriously from day one?

Harwich and Dovercourt High School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Early Career Teacher of Mathematics to join our Mathematics & Enterprise Faculty.

Why Harwich and Dovercourt High School?

HDHS is a popular 11-16 comprehensive school on the north-east Essex coast and part of The Sigma Trust.

We are a school with high expectations, clear routines and a strong sense of community. Literacy and scholarship are valued across the curriculum, and we are committed to ensuring every student is both supported and appropriately challenged.

Our ethos — Achieve, Belong, Connect and Develop — underpins our curriculum, behaviour systems and pastoral care.

A Strong Start to Your Career

We are proud of our track record in developing Early Career Teachers.

  • In addition to a structured induction and dedicated mentoring, we are able to offer an optional July start for successful candidates, providing the opportunity to:
  • Become familiar with classes and routines before September
  • Work alongside your mentor and faculty team
  • Contribute to curriculum planning for the new academic year
  • Begin building relationships with students in a supported way
  • This additional time helps many of our ECTs feel confident and well-prepared for their first full term.

You will also benefit from:

  • A reduced timetable in line with the ECF entitlement
  • Faculty-based collaboration and shared planning
  • Clear behaviour systems that allow you to focus on teaching
  • Access to high-quality CPD across the Trust

You will not be left to “sink or swim”. We invest carefully in our ECTs and many have gone on to take on additional responsibilities within the school and Trust.

A Day in the Life:

As a Teacher of Mathematics, you will:

  • Plan and deliver well-structured lessons that secure strong progress
  • Create a positive, purposeful classroom environment
  • Use assessment effectively to inform teaching
  • Contribute to curriculum development within the faculty
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to refine practice
  • Engage positively with parents and carers
  • Support the wider life of the school, including tutoring if required

We are looking for someone who brings energy, clarity and genuine enthusiasm for Mathematics — someone who believes all students can succeed and is committed to helping them do so.

What We're Looking For:
You are the perfect fit for our team if you have:

  • Be working towards (or hold) Qualified Teacher Status
  • Demonstrate secure subject knowledge across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Have high expectations of yourself and your students
  • Be reflective and open to coaching and feedback
  • Be committed to safeguarding and inclusive practice
  • Show enthusiasm for contributing to the wider school community
