Early Years Assistant job summary
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- To support Keyworkers by supporting individual children as part of the nursery routine as required to ensure safety of children.
- To contribute towards the School’s Equal Opportunities policy in a positive way by promoting anti-racist practice and valuing identity, culture, heritage and beliefs.
- To support children during the nursery day to ensure that their needs are met, they are settled.
- To work where necessary with individual parents and children, respecting and understanding individual needs, always maintaining courtesy and confidentiality.
- To assist in observations and assessments of children in consultation with other team members to support keyworkers in their records and reports.
- Support children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) using guiding materials, including language support for children with EAL.
- To work as part of the team contributing to planning and evaluation of the curriculum.
- To work as a team member, taking responsibility for maintaining high standards in the organisation and care of resources and equipment.
- To attend team and planning meetings, all training days and sessions for parent interviews where appropriate.
- To participate in visits and outings which extend the curriculum, as well as other social activities which are part of the Centre’s involvement in the community.
Health and Safety and Safeguarding
- To report any cause for concern regarding a child’s health or welfare to the designated senior member for Protection/Safeguarding Children.
- To promote the safety and well-being of pupils and help to safeguard children by following the requirements of Keeping Children Safe in Education and Child Protection Policy
- Report any accidents of children and report to line manager/teacher.
- To prepare rooms for activities and to help to tidy up after activities to ensure that activities organised by keyworkers run smoothly and that there are no health and safety implications.
- To supervise children adequately in all areas of the provision and following the schools Policy for supporting children’s behaviour.
- To keep your knowledge of current working policies, practices and regulations up to date.
- To be responsible for reading the staff communication and deployment board prior to work and be ready in your workplace for your start time.
- Maintain the highest level of cleanliness and hygiene in all nursery areas.
- Take shared responsibility for the care, maintenance and security of all equipment and toys within the nursery.
Continuing Professional Development:
- Undertake any necessary and identified professional development taking full advantage of any relevant training and development available.
- Maintain a professional portfolio of evidence - evaluating and improving own practice.
- Attend training days
The post holder will undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post, in consultation with line manager.

The ideal candidate:
- Has experience of working with Early Years and must be Early Years qualified. Training is offered for candidates who wish to develop their expertise.
- Possesses outstanding communication skills and can work well in teams
- Has a thorough understanding of child protection and safeguarding issues
