What skills and experience we're looking for

The Governors of St Osmund’s Catholic Primary School are seeking to appoint a full-time, permanent class teacher to join our happy, inclusive and ambitious school from 1 September 2026.

This post will be in either Early Years or Key Stage 1, and we are keen to appoint the right teacher to the right year group. We therefore warmly encourage applicants to tell us about their strengths, experience, preferences and aspirations, so that we can consider where they would flourish and make the greatest difference for our children.

We welcome applications from ECTs and early career teachers, as well as teachers with more experience. You may have a particular passion for Early Years, phonics, early reading, continuous provision, Key Stage 1 curriculum, or helping young children build strong foundations for future learning. Wherever you are in your career, we would love to hear from you.

We are looking for someone who:

  • loves teaching young children and wants to make a real difference;
  • has high expectations, warmth and patience;
  • can build strong, positive relationships with children, families and colleagues;
  • is enthusiastic, reflective and eager to keep developing;
  • understands that great teaching is built through curiosity, practice, feedback and teamwork;
  • is committed to inclusive practice and believes that every child can thrive;
  • brings energy, kindness, reliability and a good sense of humour;
  • is willing to embrace and support the Catholic ethos of the school.

You do not need to be Catholic to apply.

In your application, please tell us:

  • whether you feel most drawn to Early Years, Key Stage 1, or both;
  • any relevant experience, including placements if you are an ECT;
  • what you see as your particular strengths;
  • the areas of teaching you are most excited to develop;
  • how you would contribute to the life and ethos of St Osmund’s.

We are not expecting the finished article. What matters most is that you are reflective, committed, ambitious and eager to keep growing with us.

What the school offers its staff

St Osmund’s is a vibrant Catholic primary school in the heart of Salisbury. We are known for our sense of purpose, strong values and the genuine warmth of our relationships. Our mission, Love for God ~ Love for Each Other ~ Love for Learning, shapes everything we do.

We are proud of our high standards and the care we take in doing things properly, and our culture is built on trust, humour and teamwork. Staff often describe St Osmund’s as a place where you feel supported, challenged and appreciated in equal measure.

We believe great teaching comes from continual reflection, not endless marking. At St Osmund’s, teachers benefit from:

  • no after-school written marking, with live feedback and manageable whole-class assessment systems;
  • regular Teacher Development 1:1s, giving protected time for coaching-style reflection and professional growth;
  • Lesson Study groups, where teachers work together to experiment, develop and share practice;
  • a paid wellbeing day each year, to use for rest, reflection or simply to recharge;
  • a warm, good-humoured and supportive staff team;
  • delightful children who are eager to learn and proud of their school.

We want every teacher to feel that St Osmund’s is a place where they can do their best work, teaching with both rigour and heart.

Flexible working opportunities

All teachers receive their full PPA entitlement, along with a paid wellbeing day each year, to use for rest, reflection or simply to recharge. We also provide additional release time so that teachers can engage meaningfully in professional development and, where applicable, fulfil wider responsibilities linked to their role.

Further information about the job

The candidate will be required to undergo a full enhanced DBS check and must be eligible to work in the UK.

This is a full-time, permanent class teacher post, starting on 1 September 2026. The successful candidate will teach in either Early Years or Key Stage 1, depending on the strengths, experience and preferences of the successful applicant and the needs of the school.

Application is by standard CES application form and a letter of application of no more than two sides of A4. Your letter should outline your suitability for the post and should include your phase or year group preferences, relevant experience and the strengths you would bring to St Osmund’s.

Please note that, while a closing date has been set, we reserve the right to interview and appoint a suitable candidate before the deadline if an exceptional application is received. We therefore encourage interested candidates to apply promptly.
