Early Years Teacher job summary

Early Years Teacher – Required September 2021
QTS or Early Years Teaching Status applications welcome
Based in Exeter

This is an exciting time to join us at Cornerstone Academy Trust, with schools based on the edge of Exeter in East Devon and in the coastal town of Barnstaple in North Devon. Our brand-new Nursery opens at Monkerton Community Primary School in September.

Due to the expansion of the Academy Trust, we are wishing to recruit in readiness for September Early Years Teachers with either QTS or EY Teacher status to lead in one of our Exeter based Nurseries. Along with the existing Early Years Teachers, the postholder will jointly manage the day-to-day organisation of the class and line manage the Early Years Practitioners. Your wider peer network will be the Reception teachers, the Early Years Teachers at our other schools and the EYFS phase leader for the Trust who oversees, and line manages the team.

We are looking for Teachers that can work in one of our innovative and technology rich nurseries. Our nurseries strive to provide a wide range of opportunities and experiences to encourage our youngest children to develop their natural curiosity and thinking skills. Our nurseries have dedicated outside spaces that the children are able to access throughout the day with continuous provision opportunities. Our nurseries have an age range of 2yrs - 4yrs and each child is assigned a key worker, there are up to 60 places and we offer 4 sessions a day. You will collaborate as part of a large EYFS team across the four schools in our trust. Staff use 'Evidence Me' as a tool to track progress and inform the next steps for children. You must be open to delivering high quality lessons and projects in a way that blends physical and digital learning environments.

The position is required for September 2021 and the post is permanent. We are looking for some nursery leaders to be able to work some school holiday weeks to manage the holiday offering we currently run from one of our Exeter schools. Those teachers with QTS are paid on the teachers’ main scale, those with EY teaching status are paid within a range between £23,056 and £30,252 per annum, to allow for experience and progression.

Our employees have access to the teacher’s pension scheme, a health scheme, a cycle to work scheme and subsidised meals in our staff café with food cooked and served by our own chefs. Successful candidates will be provided with state-of-the-art IT equipment and will work in modern, digitally enabled classrooms. To enable teachers to become the best they can be, we support them with a weekly investment in their professional development through training and there is a good performance management process, where accelerated progress is payable to those who achieve highly. For NQT’s we provide a weekly programme with specialist support from an NQT programme leader, a mentor and with inputs delivered by experienced teachers.

Cornerstone Academy Trust is responsible for Broadclyst, Westclyst and Yeo Valley Primary Schools and the newly open Monkerton Community Primary School. The new, state of the art buildings at Monkerton are opening this September.

Broadclyst & Westclyst have been rated outstanding by Ofsted, and in addition, Broadclyst is a Microsoft Showcase School. Yeo Valley Primary School became part of Cornerstone in January 2019 and has benefited from significant investment in teaching and learning in terms of staff, resources and premises. Monkerton Community Primary School opened in September with its first Reception aged children.

The Trust is also responsible for an English Hub, the regional Science Learning Partnership, the delivery of the Primary CPD for the Computing Hub, an Ed Tech Demonstrator school and is an approved Academy Sponsor. Staff are involved in sharing best practice through the work of these DfE programmes set up to support schools both locally and nationally.

Visits to the schools are welcome by prior arrangement. These will be conducted virtually whilst COVID restrictions apply. It is likely that the interviews will need to take place virtually.
