What skills and experience we're looking for
Main Purpose of the Role
- Support teaching and learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) (children from 2 years to 5 years)
- Work 1:1 and with small groups of children to support their development and learning
- Assist with planning and delivering EYFS curriculum activities, ensuring a focus on the importance of purposeful play in the very early years development
- Observe and record children’s progress to inform next steps in learning
- Report directly to the room leader
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high quality support to children across all areas of the EYFS curriculum
- Create a safe, stimulating and inclusive environment for all children
- Encourage and facilitate purposeful play and learning opportunities
- Observe, assess and record individual children’s progress, sharing insights with the room leader and wider team
- Support children with a range of additional needs, adapting activities as required
- Assist in the preparation of resources and the organisation of learning environments
- Build positive relationships with children, parents and colleagues
- Help maintain a clean, tidy and welcoming classroom environment
- Adhere to all safeguarding and health & safety policies and procedures
- Attend relevant training and team meetings as required
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
- Full and relevant qualification to work in EYFS - essential
- Paediatric first aid qualification – desirable
- A good standard of education including Maths and English GCSEs minimum grade 4
Experience
- Experience supporting teaching and learning in an EYFS setting
- Experience working with children individually and in small groups
Skills and Knowledge
- Good knowledge of the EYFS framework and its application in a school setting
- Understanding of the importance of play in early years development
- Ability to observe and accurately record children’s progress
- Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively as part of a team
- Awareness of safeguarding and child protection procedures
