Education & Pastoral Assistant job summary

As part of The Wensum Trust, we believe that our shared duty is to help every child to develop into high achieving, confident, healthy, caring and resilient members of their family and community. We want our schools to be healthy environments where both children and staff can develop and where strong, positive relationships are key. Our school, therefore, practices a relational approach with children, our families and our communities. We are particularly interested in working with people who share Our Qualities; who will work effectively and flexibly as part of a team.

Firside Junior School is a co-educational school for children from 7 to 11 years old. It is the popular and natural school of choice within Hellesdon and attracts many pupils from a wider area.

We offer a stimulating environment for learning, where every child can thrive and do well. We believe that every child deserves the best education possible and we aim to provide just that. We set out to give children a sense of purpose, encourage their confidence and to enjoy learning. Children are happy and do well at Firside.

We regard our partnership with parents and carers as vital for each child’s success. With support from home, we feel confident of enabling children to make the most of the many opportunities that lie ahead.

We are committed to providing the best education possible, to meet the needs of every pupil. We aim to do our best to help every child do his or her best, so that they may become the best they can be. We believe education should be concerned with every aspect of a child's development. We therefore provide a wide-ranging set of planned learning opportunities for them to experience. Our aim is to help every pupil to develop the ability to realise his, or her, aspirations, to acquire the attitudes, understanding and skills to become a successful learner, a confident individual and a responsible citizen.

This role will predominantly be working with pupil(s) with SEND, it will also include working across all year groups. As part of your role you may also be required to support the teaching and learning of pupils and deliver small group and intervention work directed by the class teacher, Head of Year and SENCO. Ideally the successful candidate would have experience of working in a primary school environment alongside pupils with SEND. Working 32.5 hours per week, term time +1.

Being a part of The Wensum Trust’s family of schools offers employees unique experiences to work alongside our strategic partners and to collaborate with a wider network of staff. We believe in investing in employees as individuals, by providing training opportunities that help to develop both existing and new skill sets, to encourage career progression at all levels. As a trust we have professionalised the role of education support. All of our Education and Pastoral Assistants are paid at either scale D or E with opportunities for pay progression. We believe in professional development at all levels. Therefore, we invest in our staff by providing opportunities for growth and upskilling. Our career progression pathways allow support staff to develop and advance within our schools. As a progressive trust, we aim to stay ahead of an ever-evolving educational landscape.

We value our staff and are committed to supporting their wellbeing. We have an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) which all staff can access 24 hours a day. The EAP provides counselling services, legal information and guidance, musculoskeletal services and online resources such as nutrition diaries, healthy eating plans, personal coaching questionnaires and tools and fitness programmes.

We care about bringing together the most able people, to help us achieve our vision of providing a rounded education for children, quality support for their families and opportunities to enrich our communities.
