Education Welfare Officer job summary

Meadowhead School and Sixth Form has an opportunity for Educational Welfare Officer to help improve levels of student attendance and engagement whilst also promoting positive attitudes towards regular school attendance on the part of students and parents/carers.

Key Responsibilities:

You will be required to:

  • ensure that the school continues to improve the attendance of students by challenging absence accordingly
  • conduct home visits to students in line with school policy, identifying the reasons for non-attendance, working closely with families and others to break down the barriers to learning and achieve regular attendance
  • attend and contribute to attendance and inclusion meetings for all year groups
  • manage a caseload of persistently absent students and implement strategies to improve attendance

You will have:

  • an understanding of the key factors which would result in a child becoming missing from education and the potential impact this could have on the achievement of the child
  • the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external organisations to achieve positive outcomes for vulnerable and disengaged children
  • good communication and liaison skills and the ability to establish and maintain good personal working relationships with all members of the school community
  • experience of working collaboratively with pupils, parents/carers, and organisations to achieve positive outcomes for children
