Do you lead with compassion when supporting young people finding their voice in a new language?
Do you have the confidence to help students grow, the courtesy to value every culture, and the commitment to remove barriers to learning?
If this sounds like you, Thomas Deacon Academy would love to hear from you.
Your role:
As an EAL Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a vital part in helping multilingual learners feel welcomed, understood and empowered. Working closely with the Multilingual Lead and English team, you’ll support newly arrived pupils through assessment and induction, deliver targeted small‑group and one‑to‑one interventions, and help adapt learning so that language is never a barrier to ambition. You’ll support students across lessons, clarify instructions, develop tailored resources, promote literacy and confidence in English, and build trusting relationships with students and families. Your role will also involve monitoring progress, sharing meaningful feedback, supporting transitions between key stages and working with external agencies when needed.
You’ll bring experience or a strong interest in working with young people, ideally within a school setting, alongside excellent communication skills, reliability and attention to detail. You’ll be confident using basic IT, able to work flexibly as part of a team, and motivated by a genuine commitment to inclusion, equality and safeguarding. Above all, you’ll share our values of compassion, confidence, courtesy, commitment, curiosity and courage, and believe every student deserves to succeed, whatever their starting point.
