English Leader - 2nd in Department Literacy Lead job summary
We are looking for a leader of English to bring literature and language to life. We know English has the power to aid students’ understanding of what it is to be human, to communicate and create with flair and to develop their voice in the world. We are a growing school and we have ambitious plans for the students. We have a developing library and supportive team.
We’re looking for someone to support the head of department to develop our curriculum to achieve the best we can for our students. You will be responsible for leading literacy ensuring parity across subjects and students leave with a good standard of literacy ready for the next stage in their journey.
Sir Thomas Fremantle is set in North Buckinghamshire for 11-16 year olds serving the local community. The school is in easy reach of Milton Keynes and Aylesbury. We benefit from great facilities – the school building was only opened in 2017.
We are driven to ensure all our students have an incredible education that inspires and prepares them for the next step in their journey. With 600 students we are able to really get to know each of them and our sense of community is a real strength of our school.
Your professional development is really important to us. We want you to have the skills and training so you can flourish in your role. We care about your wellbeing and we want to work with you to ensure we do all we can to support you.
We would love to show you around our school to meet our wonderful students and to get to know us better.

STFS is a welcoming and caring school that is oversubscribed and academically successful. Our GCSE results place us firmly as one of the top performing non-selective schools across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes. Being a small school, we have a unique opportunity to get to know each of our young people and their families, to develop a genuinely personalised approach to their learning and to offer the very best in academic rigour and pastoral care.
The students at STFS benefit from highly qualified and committed staff who understand the various challenges that young people face. The smaller class sizes and relationships that are deep rooted in mutual respect mean that students at STFS are more than a statistic. They feel valued and are keen to learn. We are committed to providing an environment where learners can learn and teachers can teach.
