English Teacher job summary

Pay Range: NQT/MPR/UPR
Position Start Date: September 2020
Contract Type: Full-time
Contract Term: Permanent
Application Close: 1st May 2020

We are looking for an English teacher who believes in building strong relationships with students, is passionate about their subject and is willing to go the extra mile to support pupils in being successful. Applicants will be ambitious, enthusiastic, and highly motivated teachers, determined to achieve the highest standards for the students that they teach. You would be expected to develop, plan and deliver effective and high quality learning experiences to all students across key stage 3 and 4.

The English Department has a strong track record of success. Pupil outcomes are consistently above the national average. In 2019, 88% of pupils gained either English Language or Literature at grade 4 or above. At grade 5 the figure was 69%.

Why William Edwards School?

William Edwards is a large, successful, harmonious and thriving mixed 11-16 comprehensive school. Pupil outcomes across the school are historically strong with core subjects consistently performing well. However, life at William Edwards is about so much more than just GCSE outcomes and we understand and value the importance of pupil-centred education and a wide curriculum offer. We are proud of our national reputation for sport, the arts are extremely strong and we are proud to boast the largest Duke of Edinburgh Award cohort in the East of England. We are one of only a small number of secondary schools nationally to hold both the Artsmark Platinum and the Youth Sports Trust Gold Award for our work in these diverse fields.
Following the school’s most recent inspection in May 2019, Ofsted said that “pupils who spoke to inspectors were effusive about their experience in school” and we are delighted that our recent inspection captured our considerable strengths in teaching, pastoral care, behaviour, pupil support and curriculum. We are pleased that these 'cornerstones' of high quality education remain strong at the school.
