English Teacher job summary

Teachers at the Oxfordshire Hospital School work with young people with medical needs from Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties. We are exciting to be recruiting for a permanent English teacher post. The post will initially be based at The Highfield Adolescent Unit, which is an inpatient unit for the assessment and treatment of adolescents (11 – 18 yrs of age) and is part of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). The post holder may also be required to work in both our Outreach Teaching team and at the Children’s Hospital depending on pupil need. All our staff can be redeployed to any of our locations according to teaching needs.

This is an exciting professional development opportunity for teachers who are excellent classroom practitioners from either a mainstream or special provision background and who are passionate about teaching and learning for young people who have medical needs.

We are seeking a teacher with recent experience of teaching English to GCSE level and preferably with experience of teaching A level although this is not essential. The ability to offer at least one other subject to at GCSE level is desirable.

Teachers work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and an understanding of the complexities of a hospital environment or multi-professional working would be an advantage.

As a Hospital School (we are officially designated by DfE as a Special School) our priority is to support every pupil and their family by providing excellent, personalised education during their time with us, and subsequently helping to ensure their successful return to their mainstream or enrolled school when they are well enough. The OHS is a local authority maintained school with staff employed by the OCC under the usual pay and conditions arrangements for schools.
OHS is commissioned by Oxfordshire County Council to meet its duties as set out in Section 19 of the Education Act 1996.
We were recognised as an Outstanding school in July 2017 and more recently in June 2023; we work hard to sustain and improve on this achievement. Our leaders, teachers and support staff aspire for excellence in everything they do and are open and committed to exploring new and innovative ways of delivering our outstanding provision.
