What skills and experience we're looking for

Are you a newly qualified teaching assistant looking to gain experience? This summer term role is an ideal shorter contract to test the waters of working in a nursery school setting.

Our Opportunity

We encourage interest and applications from candidates who are interested in and would thrive in working within nursery education which offers reward, challenge and where no two days are the same. We are looking for someone with a genuine passion for working with very young children, and experience working with children who have additional needs. We are working hard to develop our nurture provision for some of our most vulnerable children and we are looking to strengthen our team who work flexibly with all children who are on roll. This post is particularly focused on working intensively with children who require support with communication and interaction.

The successful candidates will ideally hold English and Maths GCSE level ‘C’ or above or equivalent.

Key duties:

  • Engage with children to develop sustained, shared thinking, and promote the characteristics of effective learning, as defined in the EYFS.

  • Prepare and maintain our learning environment
  • Carry out routine tasks to support the work of teacher, HLTAs and ATAs
  • Provide intensive support to some of our children with additional needs

You will:

  • Be able to support in the delivery of high-quality learning experiences for all children, including those with SEND
  • Have high expectations of learning and behaviour and inspire and motivate our children
  • Be supportive, nurturing and understanding with high expectations
  • Be one of our play people
  • Seek to make learning exciting and a positive experience
  • Work well as part of a large team
  • Demonstrate good communication skills both orally and written

Here at Childhaven Community Nursery School we provide a vibrant, welcoming, and inspirational setting and serve the communities around the Scarborough Town. We are one of only 3 maintained nursery schools in North Yorkshire and we offer children a unique start to their education. Children aged between 2 and 4 play and learn together in our wonderful Victorian building and garden.

Our learning environment and education provision that is offered to our 95 children on roll is second to none and our teaching assistants play an important part in school life. Our team ethos helps make our school welcoming, calm and purposeful.
