Estates Maintenance Technician job summary

Vita Multi Academy Trust have an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and welcoming team in a varied and rewarding role. We are seeking a proactive individual to join our Estates Team to help us ensure high standards of maintenance and general repair across the extensive grounds and buildings which form part of the Trust. (Sites covered will be Perins School, Sun Hill Junior School and Perins Preschool, all in New Alresford).

No two days are the same in this position. You could be repainting a classroom, repairing damaged fencing, carrying out gardening work on our extensive grounds, or welcoming guests who have hired our outdoor facilities outside of school hours. By ensuring our facilities are kept in optimum condition, your role will make a positive difference towards the teaching and learning experience of staff and students at both Perins and Sun Hill Junior School.

Shifts operate on a rota system with early shifts (7am - 3.30pm), day shifts (8am - 4.30pm) and late shifts (2.30pm - 10.30pm) including a requirement to work one weekend per month. As such the position attracts an additional 14% shift allowance.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Work as a proactive and reliable member of a small, close-knit estates maintenance team supporting school environments. The role requires a hands-on, can-do approach, with team members willing to get involved, support one another, and contribute positively to maintaining motivation, teamwork, and a high standard of service across the sites.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and repair work across both school sites, including painting and decorating, minor groundworks, basic carpentry, fencing, and responding to requests to repair a wide range of assets. The role requires the ability to work independently, using initiative to prioritise tasks and complete work to a high standard, alongside the regular use of power tools and grounds maintenance machinery.
  • Complete essential caretaking duties that support the day-to-day running of the schools, including maintaining site security, managing waste and litter, and responding promptly to blockages.
  • Take direction from the Deputy Estates Manager to carry out routine estates maintenance tasks in line with Health and Safety regulations. The role includes supporting and assisting with inspections and checks across the estate, ensuring compliance with statutory and site-specific requirements. There is a responsibility to promptly report any health and safety issues to the Estates and Health & Safety Manager and/or Deputy Estates Manager, including matters relating to legionella, asbestos, fire safety and fire management, risk assessments, accident reporting, near misses, and general health and safety compliance.
  • As part of the evening and weekend shift pattern, provide a high standard of customer service and support to lettings customers. Facilities are hired both within school buildings and across external courts and pitches.
  • Promote and uphold the positive health and safety culture established by the Estates team in all aspects of the role. Ensure that maintenance and repair activities contribute to the safe, compliant, and effective operation of the school sites, maintaining an up-to-date understanding of relevant health and safety regulations.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact James Topping, Estates & Health and Safety Manager, on 01962 737231 or 07946 173783.
