As an Exam Invigilator, you will be part of a dedicated team that plays a vital role in supporting our students during one of the most important stages of their school journey.
About the Role
We are seeking calm, reliable and organised individuals to join our pool of Exam Invigilators. This role is essential to ensuring that examinations are conducted in accordance with the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) regulations and that all students have the opportunity to perform at their best in a fair and secure environment.
This is a casual role with working hours available during examination periods throughout the academic year.
Key Responsibilities
Before Exams
- Assist with setting up the exam room according to JCQ requirements
- Ensure confidentiality and secure handling of exam papers
- Welcome students and seat them correctly
- Distribute exam papers and materials
- Provide clear instructions and answer student queries
- Start the exam in line with regulations
During Exams
- Supervise and observe students at all times
- Maintain a calm, quiet and supportive atmosphere
- Manage any disruptions, emergencies or irregularities
- Complete attendance records
- Report any concerns or incidents
After Exams
- Collect and check all exam papers and materials
- Ensure scripts are prepared and returned securely
- Dismiss students in a calm and orderly manner
Additional Tasks
- Attend training and annual updates (provided by the school)
- Support arrangements for candidates with access requirements (e.g., acting as a reader or scribe - training provided)
- Assist with clash supervision or other exam-related administrative duties

- Reliability, punctuality and flexibility
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Confidence in giving instructions and managing groups
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Basic IT skills
- Good numeracy and literacy
Desirable
- Experience working in a school environment
- Awareness of educational issues
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above)
- First Aid qualification or willingness to train
English fluency requirements apply in line with statutory guidance.
