Exam Invigilator job summary

Faringdon Community College (FCC), a successful and well-established 11-18 co-educational secondary comprehensive school. Faringdon Community College is looking to recruit invigilators to join our existing invigilation team to ensure flexibility across the academic year for all our internal and external examinations . May and June are our busiest months of the year. There will also be opportunities to invigilate at numerous other times of the year (for example mock examinations).

The times and number of hours that you will be required for work will be governed by the exams timetable set by the examination boards and the number of students sitting each exam. There will be morning and afternoon exams scheduled, but not every day.

Initially, you will work alongside experienced invigilators in the leisure centre where the majority of our exams take place. Once you have gained experience, you may be asked to work in different venues in school. Training will be given at meetings throughout the year and as part of the role, we would anticipate attendance of these meetings.

The Exams Officer will manage the invigilators' working hours to ensure that there is enough staff for each of the scheduled exams as required by the Joint Council of Qualifications (JCQ).

Experience of working in a higher education environment would be useful, but the key personal attributes are:

  • Effective oral communication, numerical and written English skills.
  • Punctual and flexible to provide cover.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to staff and students.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate common sense and fast thinking where required.
  • An understanding of examination processes and SEN would be advantageous.

If you have any questions, would like any further information or would like to arrange an informal visit to the school, please contact our Admin Team, by emailing admin@fcc.faringdonlearningtrust.org.
