Exam Invigilator job summary

About this Role - Exam Invigilator

Are you interested in working with children?

Do you want to support children within your community?

Do you want a casual, flexible role that can fit around your current commitments?

If yes, then this is the job for you!

We are looking to recruit Exam Invigilators to join our existing team, on a casual, flexible basis. This is an excellent opportunity to join our supportive and enthusiastic team.

Our current Exam Invigilators say:

“As I am retired, the flexibility of the working hours allows me to maintain my lifestyle whilst also supporting young individuals to achieve their full potential.’’

“Being an Exam Invigilator gives me the opportunity to contribute to something meaningful in my community, and allows me to make a positive contribution to the education of the next generation.’’

“The role fits around my family commitments and childcare needs, whilst also allowing me to keep an income and continue to work.’’

“I enjoy the flexibility in being able to choose how much I can work during the school year. The colleagues I work with are easy to get along with and they have the same work ethic as myself - which makes us a great team.’’

“There is a real sense of team effort and we all support one another.’’

We are looking for reliable, flexible and conscientious individuals to add to our team of Invigilators to run and administer public and internal examinations and computer based assessments. You do not need previous examination experience, although an understanding of the importance and formality of the examination procedure and/or experience in managing groups of young people would be helpful. We are particularly keen to hear from caring and reassuring invigilators to support our students with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) with their examinations, such as acting as a reader and/or a scribe.

This vacancy is a fixed term, casual hours contract. Subject to performance and availability, more opportunities for invigilating may arise in the future.

Exam periods are typically, two weeks in November; two weeks in February/March and the main exam summer season from May to July. For morning exams, you would need to be available from approx. 8am to 11.30am and for afternoon exams, you will be needed from 12.45pm to 4pm. This is flexible and applicants may be able to do mornings, afternoons or both. Experience is not necessary; we will provide all necessary training to ensure you are confident in the role.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS)

Stopsley High School is a modern, aspirational school that believes in the importance of unlocking each student’s potential. We achieve this by ensuring every student has the opportunity to grow and develop both inside and outside of the classroom.

Through a strong academic curriculum, high quality teaching and our contemporary facilities and resources, students are encouraged to aim high and dream big, developing strong aspirations and a lasting love of learning.

Whilst academia remains at the heart of our student experience, we never underestimate the importance of sports, creative arts and the incredible enrichment these subjects can bring. They allow our students to pursue personal interests as well as help them in developing key life skills needed for the future.

Our enrichment offer includes a wide range of opportunities: from extra-curricular clubs, Duke of Edinburgh, music and cheerleading, debate club, chess club national and international trips to workshops and including collaboration with The Brilliant Club, Eton College and Wadham College. Students also have the chance to shape the decision making of their own school and develop leadership skills through initiatives such as the student voice as well as the plethora of student leadership opportunities offered by all our curriculum areas.

We want our students to leave Stopsley as individuals who are confident, courageous and prepared to make informed decisions about their futures in further education, training and employment. From Year 7 onwards, through our careers programme, students will benefit from access to top universities, external speakers and businesses, taster days, work experience and a wide range of workshops and conferences.
