What skills and experience we're looking for

Plymouth High School for Girls is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced Examinations Officer to run all aspects of internal and external examinations at our friendly Girls’ Grammar school. The ideal candidate will have recent and successful experience of managing examinations in a secondary school, be a confident user of a variety of computer and web based platforms and be an excellent communicator.

PHSG is part of a large Multi-Academy Trust so there will be plenty of opportunities to work with other examinations officers to share best practice, develop your skills and work collaboratively.

If you enjoy working in a school setting, have examinations administration experience, are motivated by delivering a high quality and accurate service and want to make a difference, this could be the post for you.

This post will be for term time only plus 2 additional weeks over the summer holidays. Times of working hours will be discussed at interview.You will also be required to undertake occasional Saturday morning hours (3 mornings per year) for the 11+ Examinations during June and September.

  • Proficient in administrative/clerical tasks and able to manage the day to day requirements of the examination system
  • Able to maintain, input and manage examination data for public exams, the 11+ process and internal assessments
  • Attention to detail and accurate record keeping
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft 365
  • Highly organised and flexible with a solutions focused approach to work and a willingness to support colleagues in their organisation of their professional development
  • Self-motivated and able to prioritise tasks to ensure that tasks are completed
  • Good communication skills with a kind and empathetic approach
  • Ability to cope with conflicting demands, deadlines and interruptions. To work to tight deadlines in a methodical manner observing confidentiality at all times.
  • A good standard of education, including GCSE Maths and English at grade 4/C or above
  • Able to work closely with staff and students
  • Previous and successful experience as an examinations officer would be desirable
  • SIMS system knowledge and knowledge of examinations computer systems would be desirable
