Executive Headteacher job summary

We're seeking to appoint an Executive Headteacher at Appleton Academy to lead both the Primary and Secondary phases of our academy, in collaboration with both existing Heads of School.

Appleton Academy is an all-through school educating children and young people aged 3-16 years old, with approximately 1254 children and young people) currently on roll. The school has both primary and secondary resourced provision for pupils with communication, language and autistic spectrum conditions. We are proud to be part of a strong community that works together to inspire, nurture and develop one another. In November 2021, Appleton Academy was judged to be a 'Good' school by Ofsted and we are very proud of this significant achievement. Following this success, the academy has gone onto achieve further successes including the Secondary School of the Year 2025 (Bradford Education Awards), Arts Mark Gold Award and the Inclusion Quality Mark.

The successful Executive Headteacher will be able to demonstrate a successful track record of strategic leadership and sustainable school improvement, whilst having the ability to continue to successfully lead and motivate a whole team of staff, children and young people.

The successful candidate will:

  • Bring proven experience of leading impactful change across primary and/or secondary schools, with a strong record of improving outcomes for children and young people.

  • Be a values-driven and ethical leader who champions equity and inclusion, committed to ensuring every child—particularly those from disadvantaged or underrepresented backgrounds— has the opportunity to succeed.

  • Possess a relevant Executive Leadership qualification such as NPQH, NPQEL, or be a National Leader of Education (NLE), or similar
  • Be driven to engage in all aspects of school life, with passion and resilience to make a difference to the lives of children/young people
