What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for an innovative Executive Principal to lead our transformation of SEND provision across our richly diverse and dynamic Trust.

Committed to raising standards with a flair for innovation, the Executive Principal will provide both strategic and operational leadership initially for Bishopton, and the wider Trust’s high-needs education pathways. Within Bishopton, the successful candidate will be expected to lead with a strong focus on student reintegration, curriculum innovation, and staff development. They should champion the Trust’s core values, foster partnerships with industry, and ensure the continued development of the school’s specialist facilities. A commitment to mental health and wellbeing, as well as a strategic vision for employability and international engagement, will be essential.

Beyond Bishopton, the Executive Principal will have oversight of the Trust’s specialist Alternative Provision hubs, supported internships, and commissioned placements for learners aged 11 through to post-compulsory education. The role demands a highly experienced, trauma-informed senior leader with a proven track record of improving outcomes for young people with complex needs, including those with SEMH and SEND, and with expertise in post-16 transitions.

You will drive high standards of education, care, and ambition across all AP settings, leading the design and delivery of an inclusive and aspirational curriculum. They will also champion reintegration, therapeutic interventions, and collaborative partnerships with health, social care, further education providers, employers, local authorities, and school leaders.

This is a key leadership role within the Trust, suited to a visionary and compassionate leader who can balance high expectations with a deep understanding of individual needs. As Executive Principal, you will play a central role in shaping the future of alternative provision across the Trust, making a lasting impact on the lives of some of the most vulnerable young people.

What the school offers its staff

Career Development & Staff Welfare

We recruit and retain committed staff by investing in their professional development through training and progression opportunities. Our schools and colleges will offer a friendly, caring environment with high expectations, aspirations and supporting the highest levels of achievement. We have developed a staff wellbeing charter which is a priority and has been recognised nationally; Stockton Sixth Form & Priors Pursglove were nominated the Tes School Awards for Staff Wellbeing School of the Year 2025.

Our Trust will work through partnership with employers, community groups and other agencies to make the Tees Valley a great place to live, learn and work.

We are passionate about staff wellbeing as we value and care about our workforce and believe wellbeing is at the heart of championing better working lives.

We have recently trained a number of staff to be staff-focused Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA). This is an internationally recognised approach that teaches us to spot the first signs and symptoms of common mental health problems and to guide individuals to appropriate help and support.

We commit to placing wellbeing and mental health at the heart of our decision making. We will support staff to make positive choices for their own wellbeing and encourage a collegiate culture across and between all roles in the school or college.
