What skills and experience we're looking for

GENERAL

A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) will play a crucial role in supporting the families of our pupils. This position involves facilitating communication between families, school staff and professionals to ensure that pupils receive holistic support during their educational journey. The FLO will work closely with families to ensure their needs are met, provide guidance, and foster a collaborative environment that promotes the wellbeing and academic success of pupils.

Our team works together in school and across the Trust, sharing their experience, reflecting on evidence-based research and innovating to discover pedagogies that work for each individual learner.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Family Support and Communication

  • Act as the primary point of contact for families, providing information and support regarding their child’s education and wellbeing.
  • Facilitate regular communication between families, teachers, and professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to education.
  • Organise and conduct meetings with families to discuss their child’s personal development and any additional support required.

Education Advocacy and Collaboration with Staff

  • Advocate for pupils’ needs and liaise with external agencies.
  • Assist families in understanding educational policies and processes, ensuring they are informed about their rights and options.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to monitor and review EHCP’s to ensure the needs of pupils are being met.
  • To complete administrative preparation for EHCP review meetings.

Transition Support

  • Support families during transition periods, whether entering or exiting the school, ensuring a smooth transition.
  • Provide guidance and resources to families to help them navigate the educational system and access appropriate support services.
  • Set up and administer initial assessments for all new pupils and use the information to produce assessment reports, share with staff and save the final copy on the MIS.

Resource Development

  • Create and distribute informational materials for families regarding available resources, support services, and educational opportunities.
  • Develop workshops or support groups for families to share experiences and strategies for supporting their child’s education and wellbeing.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records in line with the school’s data protection policies.
  • Provide regular updates to school leadership on family engagement, challenges faced, and outcomes achieved.

Professional Development

  • Attend relevant training and professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices in family engagement and support in educational settings.
  • Share knowledge and resources with school staff to enhance the overall support provided to pupils and families.

Hello, I am delighted that our free school opened in temporary accommodation for 32 learners in September 2022. River Tees Academy Grangetown will offer 100 places to learners aged 5-19 with Social Emotional and Mental Health needs and most learners will have an Education Health Care Plan. We want all of our pupils to enjoy their education, engage fully and make exceptional education progress.

Our vision is for a place that improves the lives of children and young people in both the long and short term, improving preparation for adulthood, We have aspirations for every learners and will support them all to access a broad and balanced curriculum at River Tees Academy Grangetown including a range of GCSEs and vocational qualifications. We focus on building Currency, Character and Community knowledge and skills.
