Family & Student Support Worker & Deputy DSL job summary

We are looking for a caring and enthusiastic member of staff to join our friendly team, supporting students and families in the classroom and at home. We are looking for someone who can help families overcome any and all barriers to successful participation in school life. We are looking for an innovative character that has excellent communication skills to help our families help their children.

We will consider applications from a range of backgrounds and experiences, and are happy to consider flexible hours for the right candidate. Successful applicants will receive a comprehensive support programme and induction training. The school will support an innovative approach to improving attendance that involves working together with a range of professionals in a pragmatic children centre approach. We will in return, ask that you are flexible, reliable and resourceful.

Stony Dean School is a very successful school. Quoted as “inspirational” by Ofsted, we are looking for a colleague who wishes to work in a positive, friendly and caring environment. Stony Dean School is a heavily oversubscribed secondary special school situated in Amersham for students with Communication and Interaction difficulties.

The role will be focussed on being a champion for students and families. The right candidate will be our family advocate who will work closely with families to support their child's attendance; to understand the causes for their attendance level and steps to improve this. The successful candidate will also support the DSL to manage the day-to-day safeguarding requirements of the school within the wider safeguarding team.

We need someone with superb communication skills in all areas. That person needs to understand students with Autism, Moderate Learning Needs and mental health challenges. You will need to work together with a range of different professionals to support each family and each family will need something bespoke to them. This will require a level of understanding of the education system and what successful personalised outcomes look like for different pupils.
