The Department

The PE department at Gloucester Academy is made up of 6 experienced, full time teachers. The team is enthusiastic and supportive, dedicated to instilling a love of sports and physical activity in our students. The PE Department builds on pupils’ prior learning, using a knowledge-led approach, with a focus on developing our pupils’ core skills across a range of sports, alongside development of their theoretical knowledge.

Resources

You would be joining a department that is fully resourced: we have built a firm foundation of an excellent PE curriculum and we are now ready to push this curriculum on to the next level. Our students participate in a range of enrichment and extracurricular activities, and PE is often at the heart of these. We are extremely proud of our enrichment offer, and all PE teachers contribute to this.

Most importantly though, all of our lessons are centrally created for every year group, and every module. As a team dedicated to improving the quality of our teaching, we regularly evaluate, adapt, improve or build upon our pre-existing lessons to ensure they are of the best quality for our students. Furthermore, we follow a Whole Class Feedback marking approach, which is highly effective and very well embedded in our department.

Curriculum

Our PE curriculum at Gloucester Academy is focussed on the development of core, foundational knowledge which students need to continue to access sport education at post 16 and beyond. We cover the physical, cognitive and relational aspects of knowledge. We revisit sports across the key stages in order to ensure the knowledge is mastered, and enables pupils to access further study.

We offer BTEC sport at KS4 and it is an extremely popular option, we also deliver core PE to the whole year group. We look forward to further discussing our curriculum with you.
