What skills and experience we're looking for

Under the direction of the Senior Finance Manager and Business Manager, you will be required to carry out effective financial administration procedures. It is essential that you are organised, excellent at multi-tasking, works flexibly and has a ‘can do’ attitude.

The post-holder will be required to undertake appropriate training where offered to ensure that their skills remain up to date. The school will provide training on all relevant software to ensure proficiency in necessary systems.

You must have

  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills
  • Experience of producing information clearly in a way that can be understood by others
  • Experience of reviewing data for errors and discrepancies
  • Experience of undertaking administration/clerical tasks
  • Experience of team-working to work effectively with others and meet deadlines and goals
  • Excellent communication skills delivering professional, polite, courteous and efficient customer services
  • Ability to interpret information to solve problems and make recommendations for action
  • Organisational skills to work under pressure to complete tasks to potential conflicting deadlines, which can involve reprioritising own work
  • Ability to be methodical and thorough to ensure work is accurate
  • Initiative to respond to unexpected problems, using recognised policies and procedures as a guide
  • Understanding of why safeguarding is important when working with children and young people.
  • Have a positive ‘can-do’ approach to work
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • A commitment to promote and support the school’s ethos for staff wellbeing for staff and students.

It would be desirable to have

Relevant financial or school office experience

    • Experience of using computerised packages for financial administration, specifically trained to standard user level in Microsoft excel functions
    • Experience of working in an accounts or procurement function
    • Experience of working in an academy or other educational setting
    • Knowledge of relevant financial best practice and legal requirement appropriate to the role, including VAT, tac, auditing and credit control
    • Understanding the financial framework and regulations that an academy is required to operate
    • Knowledge of financial procedures associated with being an academy, a charity and associated accounting frameworks

The Radclyffe School is a popular 11-16 maintained Foundation (Co-operative) Trust school in the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham. The Governing Body has direct responsibility for the employment of staff, its finances, the running of the school and the outcomes it achieves. It is a larger than average secondary school with 1500 mixed gender students on roll. The school is full in every year group. Over 70% of students are from ethnic minority backgrounds, most of whom are of Pakistani or Bangladeshi heritage. Some 30% of students qualify for free school meals or a clothing grant to help with the purchase of school uniform.
