What the school offers its staff

Thank you for your interest in applying for a post in our school. We look forward to welcoming someone who compliments our team, is committed to providing excellence for pupils and is clear that their role can make a difference to the lives of our children.

Arbourthorne Community Primary School is an OfSTED rated good school with outstanding Personal Development. We have approximately 485 pupils on roll but manage to create a ‘family’ atmosphere despite being a larger than average primary school. 43% of our children are on the SEND register, 68% are entitled to pupil premium and 38 languages are spoken across school.

There is a strong sense of team in our school and a very positive and friendly atmosphere. There is a good balance of really experienced and newer early career teachers. The school serves an area of high social disadvantage and staff have worked with great determination to improve the life chances of our pupils. Behaviour is excellent in the school and an outstanding pastoral team provide additional support for the most vulnerable children and families. We all have a strong sense of collective responsibility to our pupils and every child is everybody’s business! Everyone works collectively to ensure children achieve the highest standards from their starting points.

We offer excellent facilities for our children and families. We have a healthy budget and are resource rich and are able to offer high quality training opportunities for colleagues. We welcome both experienced or colleagues new to their career.

We have a 78-place full-time equivalent Nursery. We have two classes per year group and colleagues plan together. We also have a 14 place Integrated Resource Unit for pupils with special educational needs. Staff enjoy working in phase teams.

The school is well known locally and nationally for its inclusive approach to education. We believe in the value of parents, children, governors and staff closely working together.

We have a strong representation of parents on the governing body. We offer a variety of courses in school for our parents and community and have significant numbers of volunteer parents across all activities in school.

Staff work incredibly hard at this school to provide an excellent all round education. We have annual residentials for Y6 and Y3 pupils and trips which put the City of Sheffield at the heart of the planning. We have developed an off-site house which is our life skills centre, offering pupils and their families training in health, well-being and life skills and have beautiful school grounds with an extensive growing area developed and supported by our teacher gardener and environmentalist.

Children throughout school are involved in performance to develop their confidence and speaking and listening skills and there is a tradition of performing at the Montgomery theatre. We work closely with a range of partners to offer other additional opportunities for our pupils, including Latin, music, drama, dance, sports and subject specialist expertise.

We have a long-established artist in residence who delivers literacy through visual arts through family art projects and ‘An Even Better Arbourthorne’, which has developed a Community Fridge and growing opportunities and we have recently built a community kitchen.

We welcome applications from anyone who is committed to working closely with parents, governors, children and staff and is keen to support us in providing a high quality education for everyone at Arbourthorne. Applicants are welcome to visit the school and to drop in to lessons to see for themselves the way we work.

I look forward to welcoming you on a visit to our school and seeing how you can contribute to Arbourthorne Community Primary School.
