Food/Design Technology Technician job summary

We currently comprise three schools:

  • Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys - a long-established and successful boys’ secondary school
  • Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls - opened in 2019 and growing rapidly
  • Bannockburn Primary School - a large, successful primary school that joined the Trust in November 2023

Are you passionate about supporting practical learning in a dynamic and creative environment? We are seeking a proactive and organised Food, Preparation and Nutrition Technician to join our Design Technology department at Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in maintaining high standards of safety, cleanliness, and resource management in our food and nutrition rooms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the cleanliness and safety of food preparation areas, including sinks, cookers, equipment, and laundry.
  • Prepare ingredients and materials for practical lessons as requested by teaching staff.
  • Monitor and rotate food stock using the FIFO method, ensuring safe storage and minimal waste.
  • Manage departmental ordering and spending records using electronic systems.
  • Ensure equipment is safe, functional, and securely stored.
  • Support students by organising and returning their work and materials.
  • Assist with displays, teaching aids, and events across the DT department.
  • Maintain Health & Safety records including COSHH, Risk Assessments, and audits.
  • Contribute to departmental development, including bids for new equipment.
  • Support the organisation of educational trips and events.

  • Experience in a food preparation or educational setting.
  • Strong organisational and practical skills.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and Health & Safety regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
