Food Technician job summary

Food and Nutrition Technician Main Duties / Responsibilities

1. Preparing equipment and teaching areas for practical activities:

Health & Safety is an essential role in preparation of a safe teaching environment.

Prepare ingredients.

Prepare for and clear away demonstrations.

Ensure equipment is ready and available.

Tidying up and checking equipment.

Cleaning surfaces, cookers, sinks etc.

Laundering of tea towels and dish cloths.

Ensuring clean aprons are available.

2. Helping pupils to get the most of out of learning experiences:

Supporting the teaching and learning.

Assisting pupils with practical tasks.

3. Carrying out administrative and other functions related to the effective and efficient running of the department

Stock control.

Ordering ingredients, equipment etc.

Checking deliveries.

Photocopying, printing.

Occasional shopping for practical lesson supplies

4. Maintaining equipment and teaching areas:

Minimising the risk of bacterial contamination

Ensuring a safe environment.

Carrying out safety checks.

Maintaining equipment.

Assisting with hygiene and safety checks.

Cleaning fridges and checking temperatures.

Ensuring pupils ingredients and food products are stored at the correct temperature.
